Technology is getting better, the gaming community is rising dramatically and getting noticed by all age ranges and companies are rushing to get the next best thing. More and more companies are taking advantage of this constant craze and pushing more and more money into development, but with new companies arising, the funding is becoming an issue to match that of bigger establishments.
Games are becoming more than just an idle activity but becoming a serious issue. Some players are developing teams, companies are hiring game testers and constantly keeping up with audiences opinion. Multiplayer option is more compatable and the next generation consoles are in anticipation and when they arrived that was the end of most outdoor time. All age ranges are playing and people are being brought together through the love of games.
Because games are getting more attention and funding that most industries, companies are facing funding limits and getting left behing in all the economic dust. The biggest companies in the olden times are being overtaken by younger and richer companies such as microsoft and sony. Companies also began to develop games together. Most games are developed by a combination of major companies. In the 1980's they would fund the projects themself but now the speed of the race has become far to too much to deal with. The amount of work needed is limiting companies to producing one game a year but with multiple games being produced at the same time. Let's look at call of duty. They are released once a year at the least which leaves gamers waiting in anticipation for 12 months. Ive noticed that games are often delayed and many released dates are told. Starcraft 2 wasn't released till about 10 years after the first starcraft on PC which was a big hit at the time.
What does this mean as an employee? The competition is enormous and the levels of skill are constantly on the rise. The only way is to drift into the current of the developing world and try to keep up. This amount of pressure destroys a lot of eager gamers ready to take this to the next level and start developing games. But this is where "if your not caught in the wake then stay out of our way". But the nature of life is to strive for more so most enthusiastic gamers will embrace the challenge and show them what they have to offer.
Since the days of the Atari 2600 and Pong consoles, games are becoming more than just a player and a controller. Extra features are being added and expressing the nintento Wii, gamers can move around and completely imerse themselves in the game. Online games have caught on fully such as world of warcraft. Even gaming conventions have been set up providing gamers with everything exiting in the world and other gamers there ready to show off their skills. Games are not what they used to be and at this time, games are venturing into the world of the unknown.
